Based on customer feedback we have made some changes to the data generated in our organisation and user reports. The data displayed is now more representative of your students overall progress and we have added additional control over the data that is displayed at any given time. Please see the points below for further details;

"Exclude practical lessons" checkbox

The last year has been far from normal and so has the teaching for many of our customers. If your students haven't been able to get much hands-on time in the lab or workshop there may be some gaps in their progress through the courses they have been assigned. The Exclude practical lessons check box allows you to remove these practical based lessons from the report data allowing you to focus on the work that has been completed outside of the regular teaching environment.

If you clicked the box to hide the hands-on practical lessons in the Classes/Edit section, you'll also want to click this box in the Reports view.

"Assigned courses only" checkbox

Many of our customers choose to assign just a selection of courses to their students at any particular time. To report on just the courses that are currently assigned to your students use the Assigned courses only control. With the checkbox unticked all data is displayed even if it relates to courses which are no longer assigned, perfect for looking at the class or students' overall progress.

Cumulative Data

Data is now displayed as a cumulative sum for all sub groups. So, for example, if you have a group containing all of your engineering classes that group will show the total combined data for all the classes. Want to see the data for each individual class? Just click down to the next level. This change will make it much easier for customers with multiple faculties or departments to view the data which is relevant to them while also making it possible for site admins to instantly see the whole site progress and usage.

This change will result in much larger numbers being displayed at top level groups as these will now consider all groups below them. Data at the bottom level groups will be the same as before with the exception of the changes detailed below.

Progress column changes

Monitoring a student's progress learning about a topic in a presentation or applying that knowledge through one of our investigations can be just as important as their progress through assessments. We've changed the way we define 'progress' to reflect this. The progress column will now not only show progress through assessments but progress through all learning materials as a ratio of: viewed learning units / total learning units (percentage completed).

Assessments column changes

The assessment column has been improved to show not only the number of assessments that have been completed but also the number that have reached the threshold score for a pass.

Default Student Order (User Reports only)

Students are now sorted alphabetically by their last name.

Troubleshooting

Q) I get an error when I try to view a report.

A) Don't worry, this is probably just due to cached files on your PC. Simply do a forced refresh (ctrl+shift+R) and the report page should load correctly.

Q) When I click to the second level of groups the numbers don't quite match the top level figures. Should I be concerned about that?

A) You may notice a slight inconsistency with the numbers between the top level group and the sum of the groups below. This is due to the removal, moving or re-creation of a user at the top level of the site. If you see this you should not be concerned and it is a result of progress data being retained for a period of time after a user is deleted. Most customers will not see any inconsistencies at all as the top level group is usually reserved for Admin use.

Q) My progress percentage has suddenly dropped, where has that data gone?

A) Don't worry, all your data is still there! As the progress column is now showing total progress through all learning materials for all groups we would expect the completion percentage to remain low until your students have made significant progress through their studies. Remember to click the Assigned courses only checkbox to focus on what has currently been assigned to your students.
