The software for your trainer may be provided to you in a number of different formats. This document will help you identify the file type and explain how it should be installed.
File Type | Description | How to Install |
---|---|---|
ISO (.iso) | An ISO file, often called an ISO image, is a single file that's a perfect representation of an entire CD, or DVD. The entire contents of a disc can be precisely duplicated in a single ISO file. | The easiest way to mount an ISO file is by double-clicking the file using File Explorer, however, you can also right-click the .iso file and click the Mount option. Once mounted you can double-click the virtual drive to access the setup.exe For more information see our dedicated ISO FAQ |
.exe | .exe is a common filename extension denoting an executable file . Besides the executable program, many .exe files contain other components called resources, such as bitmap graphics and icons which the executable program may use for its graphical user interface. | By definition a .exe file is an executable file therefore all that is required is to double-click the .exe to start the installation process then follow the onscreen instructions. The file will usually be titled Setup.exe but if your computer is configured not to show file extensions it may show simply as Setup. As with all installations, suitable access rights are required. See your IT admin for further details of your user account setup. |
MSI (.msi) | MSI is an installer package file format used by Windows. MSI files are used for installation, storage, and removal of programs. The files are contained in a package, which is used with the program’s client-side installer service, a .exe file, to open and install the program. | The advantage of an MSI file is that it can be easily deployed across a network. Speak to your IT admin about how your establishment manages this process. If you want to install onto a single PC just treat it like a .exe file and double-click to start the install. |
ZIP (.zip) | A ZIP file may contain one or more files or directories that may have been compressed. ZIP files are often used by our support team to make files available online as it allows a complete folder to be sent as a single file. | It is often possible to run a .exe or .msi directly from a ZIP file but the correct method is to extract the contents of the ZIP and run the file from the extracted location. You can do this either by; Opening the ZIP file and dragging the contents to a suitable folder Or right clicking the folder and choosing the option to "Extract All..." Both methods will require you to create a new folder in a suitable location. This folder can then be deleted after the installation has been carried out. |
