1. Hold the spring scale by the top ring and when it is steady check that it reads 0 (zero). If it does not, you must adjust the scale to zero or your readings will be incorrect.


2. Turn the screw to adjust the zero setting.


3. To take a measurement correctly hold the spring scale in a vertical position by its handle. Then add the load onto its hook.


4. Lift or lower the spring scale so that it is level with your eye line, then take your reading. This will result in a more accurate reading.
